Dirt Rally 2.0 is the sequel to the acclaimed Dirt Rally and returns to the pure off-road racing experience so loved by its players. Rally is, of course, the core focus of the game, with hand-crafted tracks inspired by locations from around the world for players to test their metal. Surface degradation means that players will now see the course change depending on their running order.
A full-grid Rallycross experience is also provided, using authentic tracks from the WRX championship. To prepare for these challenges, players get to construct the best versions of their favourite rally cars in the Vehicle Builder. Earning and buying new parts for their cars, players can upgrade their performance and fulfil the entry requirements needed for the asynchronous-multiplayer Community Challenges.
Rally is the just player versus the course and conditions. Constantly on the edge of what is possible, players hurtle through natural environments at dangerous speeds, harnessing every ounce of what is possible from their vehicle. Co-drivers provide navigation notes, letting the driver know what’s ahead, while the engineering team wait patiently at service areas to repair the inevitable damage.
As entrants race, they tear up the surface, so running order plays a vital role in what challenges they will face on each track. Players can choose from iconic, classic cars through to the latest in cutting edge rally vehicles, racing for fame, fortune and the chance to earn new cars for their garage and parts to improve their vehicles.
The solitary thrills of Rally are juxtaposed by the chaos and crowds of Rallycross. Featuring circuits from the World Rallycross Championships, players compete in full-grid events consisting of four qualifiers, two semi-finals and a final. Goals change over the course of the event, with qualifiers based on finishing time while semi-finals and finals are all about finishing position.
There’s no co-driver in the car with you, so you rely on advice from your Spotter – a team-mate in a tower that overlooks the entire circuit. They’ll give you information about your opponents, advise about tactics and let you know when you should take the Joker lap – an extended section of the course that the player MUST use for one lap in each race.
