Lors du TOKYO GAME SHOW 2021 ONLINE, KOEI TECMO et le développeur Omega Force ont révélé la date de sortie ainsi que de nouvelles informations palpitantes concernant DYNASTY WARRIORS 9 Empires. Le jeu de combats stratégiques sortira le 15 février 2022 sur Nintendo Switch™, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC via Steam®, PlayStation®4 et en dématérialisé sur PlayStation®5.
Combinant l’action qu’offre le 1 contre 1000 des DYNASTY WARRIORS avec des éléments tactiques, DYNASTY WARRIORS 9 Empires emmène les joueurs dans une quête pour conquérir la Chine antique, en associant la stratégie et la force. Les combats ont drastiquement changés depuis les épisodes précédents grâce à la nouvelle fonctionnalité : « Assaut du château ».
Certaines zones autour du château sont en effet désormais transformées en champ de bataille, les escarmouches évoluent en « Assaut du château », les joueurs s’affrontent ainsi pour prendre le contrôle de ce dernier. Ils pourront également utiliser des « Batailles de siège à l’aide des troupes » afin d’envahir la base ennemie, prenant donc l’avantage sur les armes de siège adverses tandis qu’ils donneront des instructions à leurs troupes durant la bataille. Une fois que les joueurs ont pénétré les portes ennemies, ils débuteront une « bataille décisive » et pourront réclamer la victoire après avoir vaincu le commandant. Cependant tous les officiers ennemis rejoindront alors le champ de bataille pour une dernière résistance redoutable, les joueurs auront une chance de les affronter et de les capturer.
Un autre élément qui influera énormément sur les combats sont les « plans secrets ». Sélectionnés durant la phase de préparation de la bataille, il s’agit de missions à réaliser durant les combats. Chaque plan secret a ses propres conditions de réussite ou d’échec. Une fois réunies, c’est une victoire pour les alliés qui reçoivent alors des effets favorables, tels que « la capture de base environnante », « des messagers », « l’escorte d’ingénieur » et plus encore. Chaque bataille est portée sur l’attaque ou la défense, selon la façon dont les plans secrets ont été activés, forçant les joueurs à adopter la stratégie adéquate. À l’inverse, les ennemis peuvent aussi mettre en place des plans secrets. En les empêchant, les joueurs gagnent un bonus avantageux en combat.
Les affinités d’armée joueront également un rôle crucial dans DYNASTY WARRIORS 9 Empires. Chaque officier se voit attribuer un type d’unité militaire en tant que nouvelle caractéristique. Les trois unités possèdent leurs forces et leurs faiblesses : l’infanterie < les archers < la cavalerie < l’infanterie. Lorsqu’une unité affronte des ennemis inférieurs à elle, elle inflige plus de dégâts et réduit ceux subis. Cependant, lorsqu’une unité s’attaque à des adversaires supérieurs à elle, la situation sera renversée. De plus, chaque unité militaire a ses propres effets : L’infanterie peut attaquer les armes de siège de façon plus efficace ; la cavalerie peut causer plus de dégâts aux quartiers généraux ennemis ; les archers peuvent réaliser plusieurs attaques simultanément.
Retrouvez l’intrigue politique et le célèbre système domestique de la série des Empires. Suivant les souhaits du royaume établis une fois tous les six mois, le joueur devra unifier la Chine. Chaque mois, ils pourront décider de recruter de nouveaux officiers pour rejoindre le royaume, acheter des flèches et des objets ou encore exécuter de nombreux militaires, des ordres économiques et diplomatiques en fonction de leur position.
