De miljoenen mensen die vanochtend naar de Game Awards keken, zagen de eerste gameplay-trailer van Scars Above – een uitdagende sci-fi third-person action adventure shooter van ontwikkelaar Mad Head Games en uitgever Prime Matter.

Tijdens de show werd ook de wereldwijde releasedatum aangekondigd: Scars Above verschijnt op 28 februari 2023 voor pc en de consoles van de 8e en 9e generatie.
De game plaatst spelers in de ruimtelaarzen van Dr. Kate Ward, een astronaut en wetenschapper die op onderzoek gaat in een reusachtig en raadselachtig buitenaards schip - The Metahedron – dat plotseling in een baan rond de aarde is verschenen.
Het avontuur neemt een onverwachte wending wanneer Kate en haar team door de Metahedron naar een mysterieuze planeet worden verplaatst. Ze ontwaakt alleen in een vreemde en vijandige wereld. Vastbesloten om te overleven gaat ze op zoek naar haar team en het mysterie achter de gebeurtenissen.
Spelers moeten de buitenaardse flora en fauna van de gevaarlijke planeet scannen en analyseren om te ontdekken hoe ze die kunnen gebruiken voor het maken van verschillende elementaire wapens, gadgets en verbruiksvoorwerpen.
Daarnaast kunnen spelers verschillende aanvallende en tactische apparaten in de strijd benutten, de omgeving in hun voordeel gebruiken en de zwaktes van de monsters die ze treffen uitbuiten om te overleven onder zware omstandigheden. Ondertussen moeten ze ook nog proberen het mysterie te doorgronden van een oude buitenaardse beschaving, en ontdekken wat er met Kate en haar team gebeurd is.
Tegelijk met de aankondiging is een demo verschenen op Steam die kort naar de proloog begint en spelers het hele eerste hoofdstuk laat spelen, zodat ze een idee hebben hoe Scars Above werkt, en hun vaardigheden alvast kunnen beproeven.
