DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS is ontwikkeld door Omega Force en introduceert een naamloze held in de Warriors-franchise, die bekend staat om zijn heftige ‘1 vs. 1.000’-gameplay. Spelers nemen in deze game de rol aan van een mysterieuze krijgskunstenaar en begeven zich naar het front om een episch verhaal te beleven. Zoals de opwindende nieuwe video toont, begint DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS aan de start van een tijdperk van enorme omwentelingen in de Drie Koninkrijken, waarbij de originele hoofdrolspeler, een reizende krijgskunstenaar met geheugenverlies, zichzelf midden in een groot conflict bevindt. De held speelt een actieve rol in een dramatisch verhaal uit het oude China, en laat spelers uit eerste hand beleven hoe het drama in het door oorlog geteisterde land zich ontvouwt. Tijdens hun reis kunnen spelers ingrijpende keuzes maken als de held van het verhaal – maar dit hoofdpersonage draagt ook een geheim met zich mee dat van grote invloed zal zijn op de Drie Koninkrijken. Deze turbulente tijd in de geschiedenis wordt in deze game op spannende nieuwe manieren opnieuw in beeld gebracht.
Tijdens de veldslagen wordt de naamloze held soms gedwongen om in zijn eentje te strijden, terwijl hij op andere momenten samen met andere officieren en soldaten de vijandelijke legers bestormt. Spelers bepalen zelf of ze vertrouwen op de krachten van begeleidende officieren, bevelen aan eenheden geven, de vijand direct bestormen, of verschillende strategieën combineren om de dodelijke slagvelden met epische 1 vs. 1.000-gevechten te overleven.
In de loop van DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS verschijnen ook vele bekende officieren, zoals Lu Bu, die wachten om de vaardigheden van de jonge krijgskunstenaar op de proef te stellen. Gevechten tegen deze, bijna bovenmenselijk sterke officieren zijn even spectaculair als uitdagend, zodat spelers bij elke ontmoeting op het puntje van hun stoel zitten. Maar de spelers kan deze buitengewone krachten ook in zijn voordeel gebruiken, aangezien de Companion-officier die het hoofdpersonage vergezelt tijdelijk speelbaar wordt als tijdens gevechten aan bepaalde voorwaarden is voldaan. In de rol van deze officier krijgt speler ongekende macht om hele vijandelijke legers met de grond gelijk te maken.
